Food 4 Kids

Help children in developing countries meet their nutritional needs

Food 4 Kids is a Muslim Hands campaign to provide nutritional meals daily to poor and orphan children.

    What is Food 4 Kids?

We take pride in watching our children and younger siblings attempt their first fast. However, much of this enjoyment comes with the knowledge that good food is readily available at sunset - or even sooner if they give up!

But for tens of millions of children around the world, life is not so simple.

Without access to well-balanced and nutritious food, five million children, succumb to the effects of preventable illnesses such as diarrhoea, malaria and pneumonia every year. Many of these deaths can be prevented with simple interventions such as providing healthy food alongside essential vitamins and treatment for infections, insha'Allah.

At Muslim Hands, we've gained over 18 years of experience in supporting the nutritional needs of poor and orphaned children. We provide 9,000 meals on a daily basis but there is so much more to be done.

With your support, Food 4 Kids will impact thousands of lives, insha'Allah.

    More than just a meal

At Muslim Hands we know that the long term effects of hunger run deep and can cripple whole communities. Endemic malnutrition leads to poor health and increased school drop-out rates. This in turn leads to continued poverty and the vicious cycle continues from one generation to the next.

Muslim Hands Paediatric Consultant Dr D Emmanuel, writes in a recent article:

...If you improve nutrition, you improve a child's ability to focus and achieve well in class and improve the future prospects of an entire family. If a family has strong, healthy working individuals, you have rehabilitated an entire community.  In this way, the chain of poverty and ill health is broken...

But addressing malnutrition is not just about providing a healthy meal. To effect long-term change we have to address the underlying causes. We do this by ensuring that teachers are trained to monitor each child's growth and development and to recognise symptoms of malnutrition.

Regular testing and basic treatments for parasite infections also take place to keep children in our care happy and healthy.

    Muslim Hands in Mali

In Mali, protein deficiency and endemic poor health are contributing factors to only 39% of children attending primary school.

Muslim Hands works with nutritional advisors to develop well balanced diets addressing specific needs and promoting good general health.

Alhamdulillah, our work significantly reduces illnesses and greatly enhances children's ability to learn and develop.

Right across the developing world, Muslim Hands is working with the most vulnerable children to relieve them from the burden of hunger.

How you can help children around the world

Help make a difference with as little as 50p per day. We all know, 50p doesn't go very far in the UK but for children in developing countries, it can make a BIG difference. Your 50p will go towards providing school meals, vitamin supplements and treatment for parasite infections.

With your help we can provide healthier lives and brighter futures for 40,000 children in some of the poorest countries in the world.

    • £10 will help to keep a child healthy for a whole month
    • £120 (or £10 per month) will help us to support a child's nutritional needs for a whole year
    • £300 (£10 per month) will provide a whole classroom (30 children) with nutritious meals, vitamin supplements, health tests and treatments for one month
    • £3,600 will help us support a classroom of pupils for one year

Why Food 4 Kids?

  • 146 million

children in developing countries still go hungry

  • 3.6 seconds
