Solar-Powered Well: Sri Lanka
With over 3.4 million people dying from water-related illnesses each year [WHO], unsafe water is the single biggest obstacle to the progression and health of communities in the developing world. For families displaced by conflict in the north of Sri Lanka, periods of drought and issues with contaminated water have led to an increase in water-borne diseases and long travelling distances to collect safe water are endangering women and young girls.
By providing a solar-powered well, you will be ensuring that 30 families have access to clean, safe water for drinking and to water their crops and livestock. The well will be connected to a 1,000 litre storage tank and solar panels that will ensure people can access clean water even when there is no electricity.
