Another year, another chance to help children whop are victims of war around the world! Join us this Ramadan as we walk 5km in London to support the children of Palestine, Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, Kashmir, the Rohingya and Somalia.

The Prophet (saw) said, 'That I walk with a brother regarding a need is more beloved to me than that I seclude myself in this mosque in Medina for a month’. [al Mu’jam al Awsat]

Please note that the London walk has an added bonus as it will take place on the 27th day of Ramadan, which could be the day after Laylat al Qadr, the night of power. The blessings of the month of Ramadan also mean our good deeds are multiplied Ma sha Allah, meaning more rewards for you!

The fundraising target is £200, which will provide 720 iftar and sahur meals for a family, helping to feed them during Ramadan. If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact us at events@muslimhands.org.uk – or call our team at 0115 911 7222.

What is Walk for the Children of War?

We hold this 5km walk every Ramadan as a symbol of our solidarity with children and families affected by war.

The funds raised provide emergency Ramadan food parcels with all the staples a family of six needs for a the whole of Ramadan. This includes sahur and iftar, which means for each parcel donated, you also get the reward of sustaining the fasts of parents and older children, Alhamdulillah!

The Prophet (saw) said, ‘Whoever feeds a person breaking his fast will earn the same reward as him, without anything being lessened from the reward of the fasting person.' [Tirmidhi]

Support The Children Of War

While we all enjoy Ramadan in the comfort of our homes with ample food to sustain us each day, there are children all over the world who do not have this privilege. No child should suffer from the long-term effects of hunger, especially in the holy month. This is the unfortunate reality for many Palestinian, Rohingya, Syrian, Yemeni, Afghan, Kashmiri and Somalian children who are suffering in environments of persecution and war. Malnutrition, waterborne diseases and a lack of safe shelter are the daily dangers these children face.

Gaza:
•   90% of Gazans are dependent on humanitarian assistance. (UNRWA)
• Over 2 million Gazans are food insecure. (UNRWA)

Syria:
• Over 12 million people are in need of humanitarian aid. (WFP)
• There are an estimated 2.8 million IDPs in north-west Syria. 80% of them are women and children.

Yemen:
• In Yemen, 80 per cent of the total population, including 12.4 million children are in need of humanitarian assistance. (UN)
• Half of Yemeni children under 5 years face severe acute malnutrition. (UN)

Rohingya:
• Over half of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh are children. (UN)
• Rohingya refugees in the camps of Cox’s Bazar are completely reliant on humanitarian aid for their survival. (UN)

Here is your chance to make a difference. This Ramadan, we need your help to ensure that these children receive the food they so desperately need. Just £200 can provide one food parcel that will feed a family for an entire month. Each parcel includes staple food for a family of up to 6 members, which works out to 720 meals for the entire month. With basic food items like flour, oil and rice affected by rising inflation, your support is needed more than ever before. Furthermore, by providing just 1 parcel, you can gain the reward of up to 180 Ramadan fasts that would normally take us 6 lunar years to fast.

This is based on the following Hadith:

The Prophet (saw) said, 'Whoever provides iftar for a fasting person in it (Ramadan) then that shall be a forgiveness for his (the feeder's) [minor] sins and freedom from the Fire'. [Ibn Khuzaimah]
