Notes
To work with the Community Development Department to monitor and evaluate projects funded by Muslim Hands in the United Kingdom. You will work with partner agencies to identify and support responses to the impact of poverty, exploitation and exclusion for the most deprived sections of British Society. An essential part of your role will be to coordinate responses to disasters in the United Kingdom.

This role requires regular travel to other cities and prisons. Recruitment is subject to DBS check and 6-month probationary period. This Job Description is illustrative and non-exhaustive in scope. The post-holder may be required to undertake any reasonable tasks as and when required by line manager from time to time to reflect the changing needs of the Organisation.

Position Summary

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Work closely with MH Prison services, voluntary sector providers and local community organisations and lead on the development of a delivery plan for the effective rehabilitation of ex-offenders and the most vulnerable member of society
  • To develop and constantly revise service delivery channels and strategies for customer propositions to ensure they are highly customer-orientated, place high regard on the direct views of service users, and are reflective of agreed principles of the organisations charitable ethos
  • To keep informed of government policy and national best practice and be pro-active in developing proposals for the continuous improvement of the service. This will include establishing and developing a culture that delivers results through organisational development and the use of effective communication.
  • To assist in developing effective working relationships with Senior Managers across Public Sector and equivalent senior officers in other partner agencies to develop interventions to combat the impact of poverty and deprivation
  • To support projects and initiatives which empower young people, raise aspirations and promote community engagement.
  • Work with communities across the United Kingdom with drug abuse problems and in partnership with established organisations with expertise in drug abuse rehabilitation, set-up of Local Action against Drugs (LAAD) initiatives through community engagement; campaign to educate Muslim communities; create steps to increase engagement between mainstream service providers and the community.
  • To provide leadership in developing Muslim Hand’s Council's Process for the allocation of one-off (1-year) grant-aid to the Community sectors, with clear criteria, decision-making process and mechanisms to evaluate impact.
  • To demonstrate strong communications skills in dealing effectively with the media, and experience of managing PR and reputation through a transformational change process; liaising with the managing director, marketing and communications and team leader for communications
  • To assist and oversee effective processes for the management and monitoring of grant programmes, including the registration of voluntary and community organisations and screening of volunteers, the advice given to voluntary and community groups on available grants and resources.
  • To provide leadership in transforming the current grant-aid processes and procedures for Muslim Hands’ European funding streams, with a view to simplifying processes and procedures and introducing monitoring arrangements that are proportionate with the level of grant being allocated to voluntary and community groups
  • To create opportunities for the sharing of good practice in the field of poverty alleviation, empowerment and cohesion
  • To assist on any corporate or departmental projects or initiatives that are assigned to you by the relevant director or immediate line manager.
  • To promote and adhere to all Muslim Hands’ policies and codes of practices.
  • To carry out any other duties as directed by a supervising officer.

Essential:

  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Educated to degree level or holds relevant qualifications for the post
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Minimum two years experience of working on community development projects
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong partnerships and relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  • Proactive and able to work flexibly, prioritising your own time effectively
  • Knowledge of issues affecting BAME and/or Muslim communities in the UK
  • Experience of working with both communities and senior executives
  • Experience of working with vulnerable/marginalised people
  • Willingness to travel nationwide and sometimes work in evenings or weekends
  • Full UK driver’s license and access to a car

Desired:

  • Experience with supervising volunteers
  • Experience or qualification in mentoring
  • Experience managing tight budgets
  • Experience with preparing bids for funding
