Muslim Hands is recruiting an Events and Marketing Coordinator to support the delivery of the Young Muslim Writers Awards 2019. The Young Muslim Writers Awards is one Muslim Hands’ UK projects and supports the charity’s work in delivering education to children. This year marks an exciting time for the project with the 9th annual competition, the outreach work in the UK, and a visit to one of Muslim Hands’ international schools for Writer of the Year 2018. The annual writing competition and the workshops celebrate and nurture the creativity of young writers and culminate in an exciting awards ceremony to be held in November 2019.

Muslim Hands is looking for an Events & Marketing Assistant to support the Project Manager to organise and deliver the annual awards ceremony in Autumn/Winter 2019 and contribute towards the outreach projects and international trip. Working closely with the Project Manager, you will play a crucial role in coordinating and managing key tasks within marketing and event organisation. You will have the opportunity to achieve valuable insight into the literary and marketing industries whilst gaining first-hand event coordination experience. Working from our London office, you will provide essential support to the Project Manager, taking ownership on key tasks of the project.

Position Summary

Responsibilities

  • Play a pivotal role in assisting the organisation and delivery of the annual awards ceremony including managing guest lists, guest liaison, and harnessing support from publishers.
  • Support the administration of the competition
  • Manage the PR and media interest for the ceremony and workshops, which includes writing press releases and liaising with national, regional, and ethnic media.
  • Support the Project Manager with coordinating the ceremony and workshops, including booking authors and entertainment.
  • Assist with editing and curating content of the annual anthology
  • Create content for YMWA’s social media accounts and website.
  • Increase awareness of the workshops and competition, which includes increasing the number of attendants to the workshops and submissions to the annual competition
  • Undertake specific research projects, as required

Essential:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, or holds relevant work experience
  • Experience with writing press releases and liaising with the press
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Excellent organisation skills with an ability to prioritise tasks
  • Confidence in liaising with high-profile personalities
  • Good IT skills (Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office – necessary; some knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign is beneficial but not necessary)
  • Confidence in working across teams and liaising with multiple stakeholders, when necessary
  • A creative outlook to problem solving and an ability to work well to competing deadlines
  • Attention to detail
  • Interest in literature and education
  • A passion for promoting literacy

Desirable:

  • Event organising experience
  • Experience of writing digital marketing content
