Main Responsibilities:
The HR Assistant will work closely with the line manager as part of the HR team to provide effective
administrative and operational support across all HR functions. The role will be responsible for assisting
with the day-to-day activities of the HR department, ensuring smooth operations, and accurate records
keeping, and timely delivery of HR services, while progressively taking ownership of routine
administrative and coordination tasks to maintain high standards within the department.

Position Summary

Essential:

  • CIPD Level 5 qualified or NQF Level 6 qualified in HR or a relevant field
  • Competent understanding of UK Employment Law
  • 2+ years' experience in similar role dealing with HR administration
  • The ideal candidate will be based at the MH Head Office in Nottingham for a minimum of three days per week, with flexibility for hybrid working and a willingness to attend the office more frequently when required.
  • Good numeracy skills and competent in the use of Microsoft Excel functions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong diligence
  • Strong IT skills, Microsoft Office and competent in the use of IT systems including HR databases
  • Confident and professional attitude in the provision of people support services
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  • Adept to handling difficult personnel matters
  • Excellent telephone manner and attitude to customer service
  • Reliable, flexible, and willing to work smart and to learn new skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative with a positive 'can do’ mentality
  • Resilient and able to work calmly during times of pressure and meet deadlines and targets effectively
  • Pro-active and excellent collaborator
  • Awareness of mental health and wellbeing support practices in the workplace, especially in high-stress or humanitarian contexts.
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles and ability to uphold organisational safeguarding policies.
  • Commitment to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in HR practices.
  • Working knowledge of GDPR and handling of sensitive employee data.
  • Experience using digital HR platforms and AI Tools or similar
  • Alignment with the mission and values of the organisation and a passion for humanitarian or charitable work.

Desirable:

  • Have right to work in UK
  • Leading organisational personnel development and CPD
  • [Lead] Investigation Officer experience in dealing with disputes at work
  • Experience of leading or influencing change including the development of a HR Strategy
  • Understanding of regulatory bodies that govern UK Charities
  • This role would suit someone who thrives working in a fast-paced environment and who enjoys facing challenges; often working to tight deadlines.
