Up to £25,000 – £28,000 (depending on experience)

This is a creative and challenging role that demands proven experience and skills to deliver on ambitious plans. You will be working within the Fundraising Department’s Creative Team and should ideally have extensive experience working on campaigns, factual programming or investigative reporting. Camera and editing skills, and a proven ability to communicate powerful stories on a complex and critical issue are crucial.

The successful candidate must be able to work independently on multiple projects at the same time, be willing to take direction, and shoot strong footage according to prescribed needs within tight timescales. The candidate must be able to travel, sometimes for extended periods and at short notice (opportunities for overseas travel will depend on the successful candidate’s experience).

Position Summary

Key Responsibilities (Producing Video Content for Campaigns):

  • Produce video content for adverts, documentaries and TV appeals
  • Shoot, edit and deliver high quality video content
  • Develop and conceptualise compelling content for fundraising purposes
  • Plan and co-ordinate video shoots
  • Oversee filming, editing, subtitling, sound and all other aspect of production
  • Share video toolkit and ensure freelancers and agencies understand our brand guidelines
  • Produce animate video sequences for campaigns
  • Manage MH’s live streams

Key Responsibilities (Media Production Operation and Administration):

  • Manage media files and archives project media
  • Keep a log and maintain all equipment
  • Purchase equipment, software and hardware as and when required
  • Keep an accurate and up-to-date record of the video library with easy access for the departmental and organisational use
  • Ensure equipment is always functioning and address any shortcomings

Key Responsibilities (Managing Requests from Other Departments & Stakeholders):

  • Re-purpose edited videos for international fundraising offices if and when required
  • Communicate and collaborate with colleagues to ensure efficiency and consistency in quality of material provided
  • Communicate and collaborate with external suppliers and media professionals; establishing and maintaining relationships
  • Work with external media partners, producers and editors

General Responsibilities:

  • To demonstrate Muslim Hands’ values and ethics in own working practices, approach and conduct
  • To support with Fundraising activities from time to time, including committing to partake in approximately five live TV appeals during our peak periods
  • To undertake any reasonable responsibilities as required by Line Manager
  • To promote and adhere to all Muslim Hands' policies, procedures and professional practices

  • Be able to demonstrate current eligibility to work within the United Kingdom
  • Be able to EITHER provide a valid Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) certificate (issued within the last year) when requested by Muslim Hands;
  • OR undertake to provide full cooperation for Muslim Hands to perform a DBS Check at the required level appropriate for this role

  • You are a confident self-starter who’s able to handle the varying output needs associated to the thematic areas MH operates within.
  • You have a very good understanding of the film production process.
  • You are someone who can inspire the viewer with engaging content, working collaboratively and taking direction, as well as being able to work autonomously.
  • You are oozing with talent, ambition and bursting with energy.
  • You have a passion for storytelling, producing visual material with the edit in mind.
  • You enjoy research and understand the fundamental need for attention to detail and factual accuracy.
  • You enjoy script-writing and communicating complex ideas for broad audiences.
  • You are able to deliver agreed outcomes on time and on budget, at times managing multiple projects and tight deadlines without sacrificing quality of content.
  • You are entirely comfortable taking direction and feedback, working in a team, with equal ability to work independently, taking initiative and responsibility.

Required Experience:

  • Experience in filming in challenging environments
  • Experience in working within the charitable sector
  • Experience in filming abroad
  • Experience in shooting video and stills to a high standard on DSLRs and Digital Cinema Cameras on location
  • Script writing experience
  • In-depth field-based research or investigation experience
  • Management of sensitive digital assets
  • Experience in cultivating and interviewing primary sources
  • Editing experience (Premiere Pro)

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of the following cameras: Canon C300, Sony FS7, Sony A7iii, Black Magic Pocket 6K and other high-end DSLR cameras
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, in particular Adobe Premiere and After Effects
  • Mac OS user

Desirable Qualities/Skills:

  • Knowledge of Islamic financial matters (Zakat, Wakf, Qurbani etc.) is an advantage
  • Speaking a foreign language (especially Arabic, French or Urdu) is advantageous but not necessary
  • Experience of working within NGO/charity sector
  • Basic knowledge of HTML / CSS
  • Having a driving license is an advantage
