The Technical Advisory Group – Education (TAG-Educ.) will help shape and support the strategic decision-making processes of Muslim Hands’ educational projects. The group will provide a specialist focus and review the development of necessary education projects. The TAG-Educ will engage in education services planning, responsiveness and policies of education projects to better serve the beneficiary's needs. The group will also advise on the identification and consideration of new education projects to meet emerging education needs, at the same time ensuring they are in accordance with Muslim Hands’ programmes strategy. For instance, one growing key area in the development sector is the emergence of EinEs (Education in Emergency) schools. Finally, the group will also work to establish quality assessments and increase Muslim Hands’ visibility to donors.

Location: Home-based (in person attendance preferred at head office for the three days

Position Summary


  • Enable timely, effective and appropriate advice to Muslim Hands’ Head of Education
  • Provide advocacy to advance issues of importance to global Education standards (for instance working on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals for this sector; SDG 4: ‘Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all’).
  • Shape and advise on monitoring plans for Muslim Hands’ Education Projects. This would thus entail, where practicable, visits to the field to ascertain a feel for MH educational projects.
  • Provide input and guidance in the development and implementation of Muslim Hands’ education strategy
  • Analyse feedback from beneficiaries and stakeholders on their experience with Muslim Hands’ education projects and subsequently make recommendations to improve.


  • Technical Advisory Group – Education will comprise a minimum of five members and not more than seven members. A minimum of two staff members will be members of the group.
  • To ensure membership reflects a sufficient and appropriate mix of background, skills and expertise which includes individuals with one or more of the following experiences or attributes is essential:
  • - Executive post holders (such as in Academy Trusts) having leadership experience
  • - Senior Management post holders in mainstream/independent sectors
  • - Educational Consultancy post holders
  • - Current teacher/assistant teacher postholders
  • - Previous number of years experience working in educational establishments


  • The Technical Advisory Group – Education will be required to meet a minimum of three times in any twelve months period.
  • In addition to ordinary meetings, special meetings may also be called as initiated by the Head of Education
  • The quorum number for a meeting to be acceptable is three members
  • Group members must attend a minimum of three meetings in the twelve months period specified. Attendance may be by video- or teleconference - if an individual notifies in advance of a meeting that they are unable to attend that meeting in person. No proxies will be allowed.


  • The Technical Advisory Group – Education members will be on a voluntary basis, however, Muslim Hands shall reimburse approved travel costs associated with attending meetings and any other costs associated with carrying out work on behalf of Muslim Hands in accordance with Muslim Hands' volunteer and expenses policies.


  • Able to demonstrate (unrestricted) eligibility to work in the United Kingdom
  • Experience and knowledge in the UK educational sector
  • Experience in volunteering in charities and other NGOs


  • Experience of having made contributions that have had impact/change in any educational matters/issues
  • Knowledge and understanding of development work
  • Membership in professional networks
  • Understanding of social and educational issues in developing countries, specifically for women and children is highly desirable
