Gaza Winter Walk Over The Years

Over the past 12 years, more than 20,000 walkers across the UK have come together for the Gaza Winter Walks, braving the cold to raise over £1 million for various projects in Gaza.

You have helped establish the Psychological Rehabilitation Programme which help thousands of children suffering from trauma, anxiety and other mental health problems. With your support, we were able to rebuild the Al-Durrah Hospital, when it was destroyed by air strikes, as well as build large-scale water purification systems to combat water shortages in Gaza. Through partnerships with UNRWA, we have been able to provide ante-natal and post-natal care and equipment to 132,000 Palestinian women.

These are just a few of the many incredible ways you and many others have supported the people of Gaza through our annual Gaza Winter Walks.

Rebuilding The Homes Of Families In Gaza

In the 2014 Gaza conflict, thousands of homes were destroyed or severely damaged, leaving refugee families to live in hazardous, overcrowded and structurally unsafe conditions.

Leaking roofs, inadequate ventilation, broken windows and crumbling walls have left families exposed and unprotected during the harsh winter seasons.

During the winter period, temporary shelters are at risk of being washed away by heavy rain and flooding making the need for sturdy homes even greater.

Q. Why has Gaza Winter Walk 2021 gone virtual?

A. Due to government guidelines regarding coronavirus, we cannot hold this event in person. Your safety and well-being remain our highest priority. We want to ensure that you feel safe while taking part in this event.

We will instead host a ‘Virtual Walk and Talk’, holding the entire event on Zoom, while you take part in your 5 mile challenge in your own local park or neighbourhood.

We ask you to observe social distancing from everyone who does not belong to your household throughout the walk.

Q. Who can take part in the Gaza Winter Walk?

A. Gaza Winter Walk is an event which is open to anyone who is up for the challenge.

Q. How much do I need to raise?

A. Each participant must raise a minimum of £150. However, we are hoping that our enthusiastic participants aim for a more ambitious individual fundraising target!

Sadaqah and Zakat donations are accepted.

When setting up a JustGiving page, select ‘Start Fundraising’ on the top of this page and follow the instructions. Any donations collected offline, such as cash, must be transferred to Muslim Hands by the event date.

Q. What happens on the day?

A. We will be hosting a ‘Virtual Walk and Talk’, holding the entire event on Zoom. You can walk in your own local park or neighbourhood, while joining us on the Zoom link.
Tune in with other participants taking part in Gaza Winter Walk from around the world and enjoy fun entertainment and inspiring talks as you do your 5 mile challenge.
The virtual event will start at 12:00 PM using a link which will be sent to you closer to the event day.

Q. What should I wear?

A. We advise to keep an eye on the local weather reporting and dress appropriately in your warmest clothes as temperatures are likely to be low and the weather may be windy and wet. Please also ensure your footwear is comfortable and ideally waterproof. Any other protective and waterproof clothing/accessories such as gloves, scarves, and umbrellas are strongly advised.
