Nomad Speaks (Spoken Word Artist)

Nomad speaks is writer/poet whose socially conscious words have touched the hearts of many women. Her poem ‘Dear Sister’ which tackles the issue of domestic violence has formed a great social movement within the Muslim community. Following its release, Sister Yasmine was invited to speak in parliament and continues to campaign against this taboo subject through her thought-provoking words, having been widely received by a number of women’s charities, as well as victims themselves.

Lubaba Khalid (Host)

Sister Lubaba is a 2nd year international relations student and the BAME (Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic) representation officer at the University of Westminster. Lubaba is also currently an active volunteer with Muslim Hands for now over a year.

Somaliland Borehole

All funds will be going towards constructing a borehole in Arabsiyo, Somaliland. An area where over 240,000 people are suffering from severe drought since August 2017 due to harsh climate conditions.

Once constructed, this borehole will provide not only clean water for around 60,000 people but will also provide irrigation water for 1300 farmers which will in turn provide food for the surrounding areas. Arabsiyo is usually known as the 'Food Basket' due to its successful farming but has been devastated by the current drought.

Muslim Hands has seen first hand the dire need for clean water for this community and we all know the consequences of both lack of water and dirty water; causing much illness and even death due to water-borne diseases.

The total cost of the Borehole, due to the extra large size and the depth needed is £78,000.
