Today is International Women’s Day and this year it's all about taking bold actions to empower women and young girls. ‘The Prophet (saw) said, “Your heaven lies under the feet of your mother”’. (Ahmad)

Mothers form the backbone of every family, every household and every community and access to basic maternal healthcare is a right that all women should enjoy. Thanks to the bold actions of charities and governments across the world, maternal health has improved drastically in the last decade. In the last fifteen years, the rate of maternal deaths globally dropped by almost 50% .
However, 830 women are still dying every day from preventable childbirth and pregnancy-related causes and 99% of these deaths are occurring in developing countries.
Our Motherkind maternal health clinics in Afghanistan and Somalia are saving the lives of mothers and babies every day. Since 2011, our Motherkind teams have been providing front line medical services and support to some of the most vulnerable mothers in the world. Last year alone, we provided vital healthcare to over 170,000 women and children.
