Our Work in Sri Lanka
Muslim Hands has been working in Sri Lanka since the devastating 2004 tsunami, supporting vulnerable communities with long-term development and emergency relief. Over the years, we’ve built strong local partnerships and deep-rooted programmes that address poverty at its core.
Our focus is on sustainable, community-led projects that provide not just immediate aid, but long-term solutions to the challenges people face. Here are some of the key areas we’re working in:
Education for Orphans and Vulnerable Children
The School of Excellence in Kalutara provides free, high-quality education to orphans and underprivileged children.
Students receive daily meals, healthcare, and psychosocial support.
Teachers are locally employed, helping to build educational infrastructure and improve the lives of hundreds of children.
Clean Water and Sanitation
We construct deep water wells, tube wells, and install sanitation facilities in remote areas where clean water is scarce.
Hygiene training and water safety programmes are run alongside installations to promote long-term public health.
Livelihoods and Economic Empowerment
Our livelihood projects support families with tools, training, and resources to start or grow small businesses, including farming, fishing, tailoring, and food production.
These initiatives empower individuals—especially women—to earn a stable income and lift their families out of poverty.
Why It Matters
Sri Lanka continues to face widespread poverty, especially in rural areas. Many families struggle to afford basic necessities like education, healthcare, and safe water. Your support helps build resilient communities that can stand on their own, with dignity and hope.
By joining the Sri Lanka Deployment, you’ll see this work up close—and become a part of it.

Established in 1993, Muslim Hands is an aid agency and NGO helping those affected by poverty, conflict and natural disaster in over 20 countries worldwide.
