Clean water for Jamal's family
In a remote village in Yemen, Jamal’s children spent hours each day walking through dangerous terrain, hauling heavy buckets of water. The water they carried was dirty and unsafe - water that could make them seriously ill, or worse.
Clean water should never be a risk to a child’s life. Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, that has changed. Jamal’s family - and more than 10,000 people in his community now have access to safe, clean drinking water close to home.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will I get pictures and videos of my water well?
Yes, we provide a feedback report that includes images of the well, details of its construction and information about the beneficiaries. If you would also like video footage, simply let us know—videos are available upon request.
Can I donate my water well next to a masjid?
In most cases, this is a viable option unless our team on the ground identifies an issue during the assessment stage, in which case, they would let us know.
Can I donate my water well to a requested area?
We focus our projects in designated regions at scheduled times to ensure quality and efficiency. If your requested location falls within our current project area, we can accommodate your request. If it falls outside our active project zone, we are, unfortunately, unable to build there at this time.
How long does a water well last?
The lifespan of a well depends on its type and the local conditions, but on average:
- Water Pumps last 10 years or more
- Dig-A-Wells last 25 years or more
- Community Wells last 35 years or more
Regular maintenance and proper use can also help extend these timeframes.
What happens if the water well I donated gets damaged or requires repair?
Each community elects a caretaker who is trained by Muslim Hands in basic maintenance and repairs. If an issue arises that the caretaker cannot resolve, they can contact our team directly to request further assistance.
Can I get the exact co-ordinates of where my water well has been built?
Yes, in most countries we can provide the exact coordinates of your well. However, in some countries—such as Pakistan—government regulations prevent us from sharing coordinates, specifically. In these cases, detailed location information can be provided.
How long will it take for my water well to be completed?
This will depend on the type of well chosen, but the typical timelines are as follows:
• Tube Well - nine months
• Dig-A-Well - one year
• Community Well - one year
In many cases, wells are completed much sooner than the above estimates, but may vary depending on local conditions and resources.
Can I get a certificate for a water well that I have donated as a gift?
Yes, you can donate and request a certificate through Great Charity Gifts, where you can choose from a variety of templates and even add a custom message! We can print and post the certificate to any address you choose, or provide a digital copy that can be emailed directly.
Can I get a plaque placed on the well I have donated?
Yes, every well we build includes a plaque. Please note that the message on the plaque is limited to 30 characters, including spaces.
Can I request a plaque in a different language?
Yes, plaques can be requested in any language. Please note that the message is still limited to 30 characters, including spaces.
Can I visit my well?
Yes, you are very welcome to visit. Location details will be included in the feedback report. Please contact us to arrange your visit, and we will provide all the necessary information.
Are water sources tested for safety against contaminants?
Our team on the ground conducts thorough checks both before and after the completion of each well. Before construction begins, we survey the area to ensure it is suitable, measure depth, and assess other important factors. Once the survey is complete, we proceed with construction.
Will maintenance or repair support be provided for my well if anything breaks down?
We provide training in basic maintenance and repair to a locally elected team. If they are unable to fix the issue, our team is readily available to help.
Will I receive updates during my well's construction?
We do not currently provide step-by-step updates. While we plan to implement this in the future, at present we provide updates only once construction has been completed.
