Why make charity part of your Friday?

Friday, or Yawm al-Jumu‘ah, holds a special place in Islam. It is a day of gathering, prayer and drawing closer to Allah (swt). The Prophet (saw) described Friday as 'the best day on which the sun has risen' [Muslim].

Charity is a meaningful way to honour this blessed day. Ka‘b (ra) is reported to have said that charity given on Friday is greater than charity given on other days. The scholar Ibn al-Qayyim also recognised the particular virtue of giving Sadaqah on Friday.

The Prophet (saw) taught that the deeds most beloved to Allah are those performed consistently [Bukhari], even when small. Friday Giving helps you put this teaching into practice by making a manageable weekly donation part of your worship.

The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday.

After six months of pain, your Zakat helped Sumaiya recover

Sumaiya was born into a refugee camp after her parents fled violence and persecution in Myanmar. Today, their family of ten lives in a single-room shelter in Cox's Bazar. With no stable income, they rely on humanitarian aid and the little her father earns from occasional work.

After an injury to Sumaiya’s lower ear, a large painful growth developed and continued to worsen for six months. Her parents sought medical help within the camp, but no specialist was available. Unable to afford treatment outside the camp, they were left watching their daughter’s condition deteriorate. As the growth became more visible, Sumaiya told her mother she no longer wanted to attend school.

Alhamdulillah, providing specialist healthcare to Rohingya refugees is just one of the ways your Zakat Fund donations are helping those who need it most. With your support, Sumaiya finally received the specialist treatment she needed and has since recovered. 'You gave us hope when we felt helpless,' said her parents. 'We could not have imagined getting this treatment for our daughter without you.'
