Ramadan is one of the best times to give charity. We are told, 'The Messenger of Allah (saw) was the most generous of people, and he was even more generous during Ramadan [Bukhari]. Many Muslims choose to give Zakat, Sadaqah, Sadaqah Jariyah or Zakat al-Fitr during this blessed month.

Your Ramadan donations can support vital aid such as food packs, clean water, orphan care and emergency relief for communities facing poverty, conflict and disaster.

Giving through a trusted charity like Muslim Hands helps ensure your donations reach those who need them most.

How do I calculate my Zakat for Ramadan?

Zakat is an annual obligation for eligible Muslims and is typically 2.5% of your qualifying wealth, including savings, gold, silver and certain investments, once it exceeds the nisab threshold.

Many Muslims choose to pay their Zakat during Ramadan because of the spiritual rewards associated with charity in this blessed month.

Using a Zakat calculator can help you calculate your Zakat clearly and ensure you give the correct amount.

What is the difference between Zakat and Sadaqah?

Zakat is a compulsory form of charity and one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Eligible Muslims must give 2.5% of their qualifying wealth each year to help those in need.

Zakat must be given to eight categories of eligible recipients mentioned in the Noble Qur’an (9:60), including the poor, the needy, those in debt, travellers in difficulty and those appointed to administer Zakat.

Sadaqah is voluntary charity that can be given at any time and in any amount. It includes acts of generosity such as feeding people, providing clean water or supporting vulnerable families and can be given to anyone without restriction.

Both forms of giving are highly encouraged during Ramadan.

Can I pay Zakat in Ramadan?

Yes! Many Muslims choose to pay their Zakat during Ramadan because it is a blessed month in which acts of charity are especially encouraged.

While Zakat can be paid at any time of the year once it becomes due, Ramadan provides an opportunity to give generously and support those in need during a time when good deeds are highly rewarded.

Using a Zakat calculator can help ensure you pay the correct amount.

What is Zakat al-Fitr and when should it be paid?

Zakat al-Fitr is a charitable donation given at the end of Ramadan before the Eid prayer. It is obligatory for every Muslim who has the means to pay it and is due on every member of a household. That means you need to pay on behalf of dependants, including children if you are eligible to give.

The purpose of Zakat al-Fitr is to help ensure that those in need can also celebrate Eid. It should be paid before the Eid prayer so that the donation can reach eligible recipients in time.

What are Fidyah and Kaffarah in Ramadan?

Fidyah is a charitable payment made by those who are unable to fast in Ramadan due to a long-term illness or valid reason that prevents them from making up the missed fasts later.

Kaffarah is a compensation required if someone deliberately breaks a fast without a valid reason. It entails feeding somebody for sixty consecutive days for every fast missed.

You can give your Fidyah and Kaffarah with Muslim Hands now.
