This year, Dhul Hijjah will begin around 18th May and end around 15th June, dependent on the moon sighting. So, the first ten days will be from 18th-28th May, dependent on the moon.
The Prophet (saw) said, ‘There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than in these (ten) days’ [Abu Dawud].
Many of you will either have loved ones who will be making Hajj or are fortunate to be able to go yourselves this year. The du'a for travelling with English transliteration and meaning
بسم الله، والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله.
يا رب! اغفر لي ذنوبي وافتح لي أبواب رحمتك.
Bismillah was-salatu was-salamu ‘ala Rasulillah Rabbi-ghfir li dhunubi waftah li abwaba rahmatiK
‘In the name of Allah, may blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O my Lord! Forgive me my sins and open for me the doors of Your mercy’.
[Tirmidhi]
بسم الله الله أكبر
Bismillahi Wa-llahu Akbar
'In the name of Allah, Allah is The Greatest.'
ربنا آتنا في الدنيا حسنة وفي الآخرة حسنة وقنا عذاب النار
Rabbana atina fi-dunya hasanatan wa fil akhirati hasanatan wa qina ‘adhaban-nar.
'Our Lord, give us goodness in this world, and goodness in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Fire.'
After doing Tawaf seven times, you will pray two rak’at, putting the Maqam Ibrahim between you and the Ka’bah. You will then drink Zamzam water. Here is an ayah about Maqam Ibrahim to recite after finishing Tawaf:
وَإِذْ جَعَلْنَا ٱلْبَيْتَ مَثَابَةًۭ لِّلنَّاسِ وَأَمْنًۭا وَٱتَّخِذُوا۟ مِن مَّقَامِ إِبْرَٰهِـۧمَ مُصَلًّۭى ۖ وَعَهِدْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِـۧمَ وَإِسْمَـٰعِيلَ أَن طَهِّرَا بَيْتِىَ لِلطَّآئِفِينَ وَٱلْعَـٰكِفِينَ وَٱلرُّكَّعِ ٱلسُّجُودِ ١٢٥
'And remember when We made the Sacred House a centre and a sanctuary for the people saying, “You may take the standing-place of Ibraham as a site of prayer.” And We entrusted Abraham and Ishmael to purify My House for those who circle it, who meditate in it, and who bow and prostrate themselves in prayer.'
[The Noble Qur’an, 2:125]
اللهم إني أسألك علما نافعا، ورزقا واسعا، وشفاء من كل داء
Allahumma innI as-aluka ‘ilman nAfi‘an wa rizqan wAsi‘an wa shifa-an min kulli dA-in.
'O Allah, I seek from You beneficial knowledge, wide sustenance and healing from all ailments.'
اَللّٰهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّيْ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ ، خَلَقْتَنِيْ وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ ، وَأَنَا عَلَىٰ عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ ، أَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ ، أَبُوْءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ وَأَبُوْءُ بِذَنْبِيْ
As-salAmu ‘ala rasUli-llAh. Allahumma innI as-aluka min fadhlik.
'Peace be upon the Messenger of Allah (saw). O Allah, I ask You (to grant me) from Your favour.'
The following du’as are to be recited during both ’Umrah and Hajj:
إِنَّ ٱلصَّفَا وَٱلْمَرْوَةَ مِن شَعَآئِرِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ فَمَنْ حَجَّ ٱلْبَيْتَ أَوِ ٱعْتَمَرَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ أَن يَطَّوَّفَ بِهِمَا ۚ وَمَن تَطَوَّعَ خَيْرًۭا فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَاكِرٌ عَلِيمٌ ١٥٨
Inna as-safa wa al-marwah min sha'a'iri Allahi, faman hajja al-bayta aw i'tamara fala junaha 'alayhi an yattawwafa bihima, wa man tatawwa'a khayran fa-innAllaha shakirun 'alim
'Indeed, ˹the hills of˺ Ṣafa and Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. So whoever makes the major or minor pilgrimage to the ˹Sacred˺ House, let them walk between ˹the two hills˺. And whoever does good willingly, Allah is truly Appreciative, All-Knowing.'
[Qur’an, 2:158]
Then say:
‘I begin with that which Allah began with.’
الله أكبر، الله أكبر، الله أكبر! لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له، له الملك وله الحمد وهو على كل شيء قدير. لا إله إلا الله وحده، أنجز وعده، ونصر عبده، وهزم الأحزاب وحده.
Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar. La illaha illa-llahu wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay-in qadir. La illaha illa-llahu wahdah, anjaza wa’dah, wa nasara ‘abdah, wa hazamal ahzaba wahdah.
'Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest! There is nothing worthy of worship except Allah alone; He has no partners; to Him belongs all sovereignty and praise and He is Powerful over all things. There is nothing worthy of worship except Allah alone; He has fulfilled His promise, He has helped His servant and He alone has defeated the confederates (who allied against His servants).'
The below dua's are only for Hajj, to be recited after 8th Dhul Hijjah:
لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ، انَّالْحَمْدَ، وَالنِّعْمَةَ، لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ، لا شَرِيكَ لَكَ
Labbayka Llāhumma labbayk, labbayka lā sharīka laka labbayk, inna l-ḥamda wa n-ni’mata, laka wa l-mulk, lā sharīka lak.
Ever at Your service, O Allah, every at Your service. Ever at Your Service, You have no partner, ever at Your service. Verily all praise, blessings and dominions are Yours. You have no partner
[Muslim]
لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له، له الملك وله الحمد وهو على كل شيء قدير.
La ilaha ill-allah, wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu, wa huwa ‘ala kulli shai'in qadir.
The Prophet (saw) said, ‘The best supplication is the supplication of the Day of ‘Arafah. and the best of what I and the Prophets before me have said is, "There is no God but Allah, alone, without partner, to Him belongs the kingdom, and to Him belongs all praise, and He is powerful over all things”’.
