Why Sponsor a Disabled Child?

Life for a child with disabilities can be difficult - especially when living in poverty. Their parents don't have the money or support to provide adequate care for their child. And without access to education or healthcare, their future is bleak.

But with your support, we can break down the barriers disabled children face by providing access to tailored education and care that meets their individual needs to live a life of dignity and independence. Sponsor a child with disabilities in Yemen, Somalia, or Pakistan and ensure their future, no matter the obstacles and challenges they face.

Help break down barriers

By sponsoring a child with disabilities, you are providing:

  • An education tailored to their individual abilities and needs

  • Confidence and independence they otherwise wouldn't have

  • Life with dignity despite the challenges of poverty and conflict.

Raheed's story

Being born disabled is especially difficult when you're also born into poverty. For Raheed in Yemen, the future was bleak. But when his mother heard about Muslim Hands' Right to Life clinic for disabled children, everything changed.

Raheed was able to have surgery on his legs, and with the support of physiotherapy is now able to move one of them - with hope for the other also. At the clinic, Raheed is able to get an education, access to nutritious food and opportunities to play with other children. It's thanks to donors support we're able to help children like Raheed survive and sometimes even overcome their disability.

Frequently Asked Questions

What will I receive as a sponsor?

Throughout your time as a sponsor, we’ll continue to send you regular updates on the wellbeing and progress of the sponsored child.

How long is the sponsorship programme?

Support through our sponsorship programme continues until the child completes their education, or depends on the individual needs of the child.

How can I send a gift to the sponsored child?

Call our donation line on 0115 911 7222 and inform us that you would like to send a gift to your sponsored child. You will need to provide the child's ID and their country. This information can be found on your sponsorship pack, but if you cannot find the details, a member of our team will be happy to assist you.

Can I contact the sponsored child?

Simply attach your letter to an email, e.g. in Word, and we will get it across to the child's carer. Our team will review any correspondence received (both hard copies and electronic copies).

If a child wants to send a response back, this is sent to us electronically via the field office. However, please not that they are not obliged to.

Please find guidance on how to write to your sponsored child here.

Can I visit the sponsored child?

We do not currently accomodate visits to our children with disabilities.

If you would like more information on this please contact our sponsorship team on sponsorship.team@muslimhands.org.uk or by calling 0115 911 7222.

Am I the only donor of my sponsored child?

In most cases, yes, you are the sole sponsor for the child. However, in some countries there may be more than one sponsor per child.

What happens if the child I sponsor leaves the programme?

We are committed to transparency and will inform you if the child you sponsor is no longer part of the programme. This may occur if the child completes their education, relocates, if the charity concludes its work in that area, in the unfortunate event of the child’s passing, or for other reasons that may result in their departure from the sponsorship programme.

In such cases, you will usually be given the opportunity to sponsor another child in need or to redirect your support to the Disability Fund. You will always be kept informed and provided options that reflect your ongoing commitment to making a difference.
